The author describes this as “a rich and lovely treat and it’s good for you.” I haven’t really found a noticeable change in the taste of the coffee, but certainly an egg yolk adds protein, energy and vitamins not found in coffee alone. So it’s a good way to start the day, or to give oneself a quick pick-me-up in the late afternoon.
A trick to remember, to avoid chunks of cooked yolk, is to begin by stirring a little hot liquid (no more than a tablespoon) into the yolk first. Add more, stirring in one spoonful at a time, until it is liquidy enough to pour into the coffee.
I usually drink my coffee from a mug, but I put it in a wine glass so you could see the coffee.
